Buying a home with a septic system?

Let us help you!

ASI is unique inspection company. We only perform septic inspections. We do not perform and repairs, treatments or installations.

Our service includes:
  • Our Complete Underground Inspection. Click here for a complete description of our inspection process.
  • The use of digital TV cameras to provide visual inspection of all parts of the system.
  • Highly trained inspectors that are either certified by Pennsylvania Septage Management Association (PSMA) or are NJ Registered Environmental Health Specialists.
  • Scheduling septic inspections for the same time as the home inspection if requested. Saturday appointments are also available.

Do I need to be present for the inspection?

While it is not required for you to be present, we will need access inside the home. We strongly recommend that you are present for the septic inspection because you can see first hand whether problems are present. You can also see where each part of the system is for future reference.

If there is a problem what does a repair cost?

Since ASI does not perform repairs we are unable to give you an exact price. Repairs can range from a few hundred dollars to replace a broken baffle to several thousands to replace the absorption (leech) field. If repairs are necessary, we suggest contacting a repair contractor after our inspection for a reliable estimate.

Why should the tank be pumped at the time on inspection?

The physical condition of the tank cannot be assessed below the waste level. Pumping the tank allows us to completely inspect the tank. We recommend having the tank pumped during our inspection, not before, so that the parts of the system can be evaluated under normal operating conditions.

How long does it take to generate the written report?

We can email or fax you a copy of the written report the next business day after the inspection. You will receive the original copy in the mail a couple of days later. You can receive a verbal report on the system if you attend the inspection.

Why is it important that your inspectors are certified by the Pennsylvania Septage Management Association (PSMA)?

PSMA is widely recognized as the leading septic system authority in the area. This association offers a rigorous training program and requires inspectors to pass an extensive exam before they are certified.

Watch out for hidden inspection fees!

Some septic companies have extra hidden fees that can add significantly to the price of the inspection. Some of these companies bill extra for “excess digging”, which can mean anything more than 1 foot. They may charge to examine the distribution box or charge extra for the use of digital cameras.

ASI has one price with no hidden charges. The price you are quoted is the price you pay.
